Dermal Fillers
Are dermal fillers long-lasting?
All the dermal fillers used at Lianne Powell Aesthetics are semi-long lasting and made from hyaluronic acid, which breaks down and is absorbed into the skin after around 6 to 18 months.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
Before any dermal filler treatment Lianne will apply numbing cream to the area to be treated to take away that first sting. Many people find their procedure more comfortable than expected, and most dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic. Lianne comes ready prepared with stress balls, cooling ice packs, and other distracting techniques to put you at complete ease and to make your treatment as pleasant an experience as we can.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are safe treatments when administered by an experienced and medically qualified practitioner. However, as with any medical substances/injectable they do come with a range of side effects including: skin rashes, redness, bruising, itching and swelling. And other rare side effects as mentioned above.
If filler is injected into or around a blood vessel this can reduce the blood supply to the skin. This presents with pain and discolouration. You should always be comfortable and pain free at the end of your appointment so please inform Lianne if this is not the case.
Lianne has been fully trained in dealing with every eventuality if they were to occur, and her clinic is fully equipped with emergency medications to reverse vascular occlusions and to treat allergic reactions/anaphylaxis. So rest assured you are in safe hands. 13 years working in an emergency department has taught Lianne to work well and remain calm in these situations (although extremely rare)
Will I still look myself?
Yes! Our scientific approach respects your natural anatomy and expressions, resulting in a natural look that’s true to you. Lianne will make sure she talks through you desired effect, and will guide and advise on what is best for the natural look you are looking to achieve.
What are the potential side effects of HA dermal filler injections?
In most cases, side effects are mild and include common manifestations:
- Pain at the point of injection, tenderness,
- Redness/erythema,
- Bruising/hematomas,
- Swelling/oedema,
- Lumpiness
- Itching
- Asymmetry
Less common manifestations can sometimes occur:
- Inflammatory reactions, infection (including localized or generalized infection and abscesses),
- Loss of sensitivity around the injected area or temporary paraesthesia,
- Risk of allergy (including hypersensitivity, dermatitis allergy, urticaria),
- Nodules (possibly granulomas),
- Herpes outbreak (if previous history)
- Implant migration.
Rare but serious adverse events associated with the intravascular injection of soft tissue fillers in the face could lead to
- Embolization,
- Occlusion of the vessels
- Temporary or permanent vision impairment (including blindness),
- Cerebral ischemia / hemorrhage leading to stroke, infarction.
What dermal fillers can’t do
Minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments, such as soft tissue fillers, cannot achieve the same results as a surgical face lift, eye lift or brow lift but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate.
It is important to remember that dermal fillers are temporary treatments for facial aging and that ongoing treatments will be needed for long-term results. During your consultation Lianne will discuss and talk through your ideas, any concerns you may have and realistic expectations. Our aim is to give you a refreshed, new confidence and ultimately to enhance your natural beauty.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti wrinkle treatments -are they safe?
Botulinum Toxin is considered a very safe cosmetic and medical treatment when administered by a qualified and trained professional. Although it is a toxin, when under the care of a licensed healthcare provider, side effects are minimal and temporary.
It is injected very superficially and the toxin remains at the injection site, ensuring that it does not move throughout the body. This means that it does not enter your bloodstream, and systemic side effects are very rare.
The key to safe and effective treatment is to find a professional who has significant training and experience and is fully qualified.
Difference between anti wrinkle treatments and a dermal filler?
Both treatments involve injections, but Botulinum Toxin restricts the muscle movement that results in wrinkles while dermal fillers simply plump out and smooth wrinkles. Sometimes, these treatments are more effective when combined. Lianne will discuss the different options with you during consultation if you wish.
Can anti-wrinkle treatments be reversed?
Anti wrinkle treatments cannot be reversed per say. However, it should be noted that anti-wrinkle treaments wears off after 3 or 4 months
How does anti wrinkle treatments help with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)?
Just as anti wrinkle treatments work to block nerve signals to the facial muscles, reducing lines and wrinkles and resulting in smoother skin, the product can also be used block nerve signals to the overactive muscle by the sweat glands. This will reduce sweating in the area of treatment for up to 6 months
